On November 17, 2025, a group of overseas media representatives toured the production facility of Guangxi Xianhe New Materials Co., Ltd. in Laibin City, Guangxi. The entire process—from pulping, sheet forming, cutting, to packaging and storage—is fully automated. Intelligent machinery deftly maneuvers through the facility, packaging rolls of paper for storage. Special paper products derived from wood resources have been transformed into facial mask sheets, decorative paper for furniture, and even materials for high-end manufacturing sectors such as aerospace and high-speed trains.

Once, the paper industry was commonly linked to high energy consumption and pollution. However, in recent years, Laibin has capitalized on its raw material advantages—timber, bagasse, and bamboo—facilitating the traditional paper industry’s shift towards high-end, intelligent, and eco-friendly practices through the integration of "AI + manufacturing."

“We are focusing on the special paper sector with high technological content and added value, with products extensively used in food packaging, medical packaging, and business printing,” said Jiang Liyong, Deputy General Manager of Guangxi Xianhe New Materials Co., Ltd. The company emphasizes a development approach that harmonizes intelligence with sustainability, significantly enhancing production efficiency.

In the central control room of Guangxi Xianhe New Materials Co., Ltd., a large electronic display presents data on the entire production process. Operators can remotely control the expansive production line with a click of a mouse. In the core pulping stage, an intelligent quality control system monitors and automatically adjusts parameters such as moisture and ash content in real time. The production line achieves a 100% level of automation. Jiang Liyong remarked, “This not only reduces errors from human intervention but also effectively mitigates the influence of various variables during process adjustments.”

Transitioning from "manufacturing" to "intelligent manufacturing" has continuously driven up the price of "one sheet of paper." “Ordinary cultural paper typically sells for around RMB 5,000 per ton, while high-performance electrolytic capacitor paper can reach several hundred thousand yuan per ton,” said Huang Tong, an employee at Guangxi Xianhe New Materials Co., Ltd. This ultra-thin electrolytic capacitor paper is extensively used in televisions, computers, mobile devices, as well as in industrial communications, electrical systems, automation, and automotive sectors, making it a critical material for high-tech industrial development.

The special paper industry at Guangxi Xianhe New Materials Co., Ltd. exemplifies Laibin City’s vision to establish a 100 billion yuan industry cluster centered around high-performance paper and fiber composite materials. Meanwhile, within Laibin City's industrial park, Guangxi Ecolink Technology Co., Ltd. leverages “AI+” technology to efficiently transform resources such as sugarcane and bamboo into biodegradable and environmentally friendly tableware, which is exported to markets in Europe and America.

“Overseas clients are particularly focused on environmental standards. We have produced pizza boxes and takeout containers tailored to international market demands, resulting in an export volume that exceeded RMB 16 million from January to August this year,” indicated Zhu Min, Deputy General Manager of Guangxi Ecolink Technology Co., Ltd. The company currently boasts an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of environmentally friendly biodegradable plant-based fiber tableware, supplying products directly to various domestic and international brands including IKEA, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, KFC, Mixue Bingcheng, and Heytea.

In recent years, Laibin has proactively attracted a range of leading enterprises, including Xianhe New Materials, Ecolink Technology, Guangxi Huabao, FirstPak, and Zhihu Yunshang. The goal is to develop an integrated recycling industry chain centered on "bagasse - pulping - pulp molding products," a deep processing chain for "eucalyptus wood - pulping - high-end paper products" and "eucalyptus wood - pulping - composite fiber", as well as a comprehensive utilization chain for "bamboo - pulping - pulp molding, high-end paper products."

The effects of this industry clustering are now becoming increasingly evident. By 2024, Laibin is expected to have 28 large-scale paper enterprises, forming a complete industry chain that encompasses pulp production, environmentally friendly tableware, and machine-made paper. According to the latest data, from January to September 2025, the industry achieved an output value of RMB 6.98 billion, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 55.8%, with projections indicating it could exceed RMB 10 billion for the entire year.
