Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated the Modern Hygienic International plant, a facility dedicated to paper and hygiene products, at the Integrated Sokhna Industrial Zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), with investments totaling $100 million.
Madbouly stressed that the government is prioritizing projects that supply essential production inputs, particularly those that currently account for a large share of Egypt’s imports. He explained that investments of this kind play a key role in advancing the state’s efforts to localize manufacturing and transform Egypt into a regional center for industry and logistics.
Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, said the authority is actively working to address any challenges facing industrial developers and investors, ensuring smoother coordination and stronger integration across projects. These efforts align with the authority’s long-term strategy to localize industry and logistics services across 21 diverse sectors.
He added that the Modern project supports the development of local value chains and contributes to lowering production costs, helping the economy navigate current challenges that require increasing the local content of raw materials. This approach ultimately benefits consumers while strengthening export competitiveness.
During the visit, Madbouly received a detailed presentation from Mohamed Sobhy, Chairman of Modern Hygienic International, who confirmed that the project involves total investments of $100 million and spans an area of 106.4 thousand square meters.
The factory manufactures paperboard used as a core input for hygiene products, including diapers for infants and adults, with an annual production capacity of up to 1.2 billion diapers for finished products, in addition to 4,500 tons of raw materials.
Sobhy also outlined the company’s expansion roadmap across the entire site, which includes plans to produce a broader range of paper products, detergents, cosmetics, and paper pulp to meet domestic demand for both finished goods and essential raw materials used in sterilized paper and hygiene products.
These expansion plans are designed to fully leverage the factory’s location within the SCZone, scale up production in the coming years, and support stronger export growth.
He further noted that the facility is equipped with advanced production lines that apply the highest quality standards, supported by partnerships with several international companies operating in the sterilized paper and hygiene products industry.
