Construction of a R$65 million fertilizer blending facility by Adufertil in Aracruz, northern Espírito Santo, will commence with a groundbreaking ceremony on February 26. The project involves partnerships with Suzano and Portocel, with operations located on Suzano-owned land. The initiative will generate over 300 jobs during construction and nearly 100 permanent positions upon startup, projected for 2027. Adufertil belongs to Singapore-based Indorama Corporation, a chemical industry group. The facility aims to establish Barra do Riacho as a new fertilizer distribution route in Brazil, which imports approximately 80 percent of its fertilizer despite being a major food producer. The plant will have an annual capacity of 180,000 tonnes, using imported raw materials arriving via Portocel, connected to the Estrada de Ferro Vitória-Minas railway. Suzano plans to purchase a significant portion of production for its eucalyptus forests in Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, and Bahia, with surplus available to the broader market. Notably, Suzano implemented production cuts at its Aracruz cellulose plants late last year due to high wood costs from Minas Gerais, where local raw material supplies prove insufficient.
