International technology group ANDRITZ has been selected as the main supplier of key technologies and equipment for a new greenfield pulp mill by Wuzhou Special Paper (Jiangxi) Co. Ltd. in Hukou County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, China.
The new pulp mill is scheduled to start operations in the first quarter of 2027 and represents a significant step in Wuzhou Special Paper’s strategy to strengthen self-sufficiency in pulp production while enhancing sustainability and cost competitiveness.
The investment will enable the company to reduce reliance on external pulp sources and align with increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
Under the contract, ANDRITZ will deliver a comprehensive scope covering the core processes of a modern pulp mill, including fiberline, chemical recovery, energy generation, and advanced decarbonization technologies.
Key technologies to be supplied include a complete fiberline featuring continuous cooking, advanced washing and screening systems, oxygen delignification, and a multi-stage ECF bleaching plant designed for efficient and environmentally responsible operation.
The delivery also includes a high-efficiency recovery boiler, a full white liquor plant with integrated gasification enabling fossil-free lime kiln operation, and a biomass gasification system to support renewable energy generation within the mill.
In addition, ANDRITZ will provide systems for ash treatment and non-condensable gas handling, ensuring safe operation while minimizing emissions and improving environmental performance.
The project further strengthens the long-standing partnership between ANDRITZ and Wuzhou Special Paper. In 2024, ANDRITZ successfully started up the world’s largest single high-capacity chemi-thermomechanical pulping system for the customer.
Wuzhou Special Paper, founded in 2014, is a leading Chinese producer of food packaging paper and one of the country’s largest manufacturers of glassine and tracing paper.
The order was included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the first quarter of 2025, further reinforcing the company’s strong position as a full-line supplier for large-scale pulp and paper projects worldwide.
