London, United Kingdom – April 8, 2026 — APP Group has underscored its commitment to responsible manufacturing as scrutiny intensifies over the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in UK water systems.
Recent research cited by environmental groups, including the Environment Agency, Wildlife and Countryside Link, and The Rivers Trust, found that 110 of 117 tested water bodies in England failed safety standards due to PFAS contamination. The substances, widely used in industrial processes and consumer products such as packaging for their resistance to heat, water and oil, are persistent in the environment and have been detected in rivers and untreated drinking water sources.
Investigations suggest that contamination is linked to a range of industrial activities and waste disposal practices. In response, the UK government has introduced its “PFAS Plan: Building a Safer Future Together,” aimed at strengthening monitoring, reducing environmental exposure, and promoting safer alternatives.
APP Group stated that its food-contact packaging products, including its Delipac range, are manufactured without the intentional use of PFAS and show no detectable traces of the substances. The company added that these products are tested against 62 regulated substances under US TPCH standards and are aligned with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
“As these chemicals are increasingly detected in rivers and drinking water sources, we support the UK government’s plan to strengthen monitoring and reduce contamination,” said Liz Wilks, Head of Sustainability & Public Affairs at APP Europe.
APP Group said its broader sustainability efforts are guided by its Sustainability Roadmap Vision 2030 and its Regenesis programme, which focuses on long-term environmental and social commitments. The company supplies pulp, paper and packaging products to more than 150 countries, with operations in Indonesia and China.
