Arauco’s Sucuriú Project reached a new construction milestone this week with the installation of a steam drum at the future pulp mill, which the company said will house the world’s largest recovery boiler dedicated to the pulp sector.

The installation was completed on Tuesday, 26 May, as part of ongoing construction works at the project site. According to the company, the steam drum weighs more than 300 tonnes and was lifted to a height of approximately 100 metres during an operation requiring detailed planning, technical coordination and safety procedures.

The steam drum is a key component of the recovery boiler system and is responsible for functions related to steam and energy generation for mill operations.

Arauco said the installation represents another step forward in the development of the Sucuriú Project and reflects the scale and technological complexity of the future industrial facility.

The company added that construction activities are being carried out by specialized teams as part of broader efforts to position the new unit among the benchmark facilities in the global pulp and paper industry.

The Sucuriú Project forms part of Arauco’s expansion strategy in the pulp sector, although the company did not disclose additional details regarding production capacity or project timelines in the statement.
