Cartiere del Garda has signed a long-term agreement for the supply of biomethane to power the production processes at its Riva del Garda mill, marking another significant step in the company's decarbonization strategy and reaffirming its commitment to increasingly sustainable manufacturing.
Biomethane is a renewable gas produced by upgrading biogas generated through the anaerobic digestion of organic materials, including agricultural waste, agro-industrial by-products and organic waste. Thanks to its characteristics, biomethane can replace fossil natural gas without requiring modifications to existing infrastructure, significantly reducing the greenhouse gas emissions associated with industrial operations.
The biomethane supply is backed by sustainability certificates and guarantees of origin, certifying the renewable nature of the fuel and its compliance with all applicable sustainability requirements under current legislation.
This agreement represents another important milestone in Cartiere del Garda's long-term decarbonization roadmap. The adoption of biomethane complements other initiatives already implemented by the company, including continuous improvements in the energy efficiency of its production processes and the use of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) for transport, helping to reduce both the mill's direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions.
"The adoption of biomethane is a tangible step forward in Cartiere del Garda's energy transition and further demonstrates our commitment to increasingly sustainable production. Through targeted investments and the implementation of innovative solutions, we continue to reduce the environmental impact of our operations while creating long-term value for our stakeholders and the local community" said Antonio Di Blas, Cartiere del Garda Mill Director.
With this initiative, Cartiere del Garda reaffirms its commitment to actively supporting the decarbonization of the paper industry and advancing an industrial model built on circular economy principles, innovation and environmental sustainability.
