Cartiere del Polesine is shutting down its recycled containerboard mill in Loreo, Italy, with production scheduled to cease on 20 December, marking a capacity reduction in Italian fluting output. The Loreo site operates two paper machines: PM1, a 2.2 m machine producing fluting in the 105–170 gsm range, and PM2, a 2.46 m unit with the same fluting grammage portfolio. Both machines will be idled as part of the closure, affecting supply of recycled corrugating medium grades traditionally serving regional corrugated board producers. Cartiere del Polesine confirmed that its Adria mill, which runs PM3 and PM4 for testliner and fluting production, will continue operations and is not impacted by the Loreo decision, preserving the group’s main containerboard capacity hub. The move follows earlier periods of temporary downtime at Loreo linked to high energy costs and broader market pressures in recycled case material.
