Chuetsu Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd. has announced the dissolution of its consolidated subsidiary, Chuetsu Eco Products Co., Ltd., effective March 31, 2026, alongside the establishment of a new internal unit dedicated to advancing plastic-free businesses.

The decision follows challenges in continuing the joint venture after its partner entered bankruptcy proceedings in 2025, making it difficult to sustain the original business structure.

The subsidiary, which focused on biomass materials combining paper and resin, will complete its liquidation process by September 2026.

New Office to Drive Plastic-Free Innovation

In parallel, the company will launch an Office for Promotion of Plastic-Free Related Business on April 1, 2026. This new unit will:

  • Take over the MAPKA® business previously managed by the subsidiary

  • Explore new plastic-free material opportunities

  • Support commercialization of sustainable alternatives

This move reflects the company’s broader commitment to developing environmentally friendly materials and responding to growing global demand for alternatives to conventional plastics.

Strategic Outlook

Chuetsu Pulp & Paper stated that the financial impact of the subsidiary’s dissolution has already been incorporated into its earnings forecasts, and no additional revisions are expected at this time.

The initiative positions the company to strengthen its role in the transition toward sustainable materials, particularly as industries accelerate the shift away from plastic-based products.
