Coimbatore, India – Corrugated box manufacturers in and around Coimbatore have increased prices in response to a sharp rise in input costs, particularly kraft paper, a key raw material used in production.
Industry representatives said kraft paper prices have risen significantly in recent months, driven by supply constraints and higher demand. As a result, manufacturers have been compelled to pass on part of the cost burden to customers, including sectors such as textiles, engineering goods, and e-commerce that rely heavily on corrugated packaging.
According to members of the corrugated box manufacturing industry, the price hike is necessary to sustain operations, as raw material costs account for a major share of total production expenses. In addition to kraft paper, increases in fuel, transportation, and labour costs have further strained margins.
Manufacturers noted that while they have attempted to absorb some of the increases, prolonged cost pressures have made price revisions unavoidable. The industry, which operates on relatively thin margins, faces challenges in maintaining profitability amid fluctuating input prices.
Buyers, particularly small and medium enterprises, are expected to feel the impact of the price rise, as packaging costs form a part of overall product expenses. Some manufacturers indicated that further adjustments could occur if raw material prices continue to climb.
The development reflects broader trends in the packaging sector, where volatility in raw material markets continues to influence pricing strategies and supply chain dynamics.
