Tokyo, Japan – Daio Paper Corporation has obtained Color Universal Design (CUD) certification for 12 colors in its Fresh Color® recycled colored drawing paper range, the company announced. The product line comprises a total of 68 colors, with the certified subset designed to improve accessibility for users with varying color vision characteristics.

The CUD certification, granted by the Color Universal Design Organization, recognizes products that are designed to ensure color schemes can be accurately perceived by a broader population. By combining the 12 certified colors, Daio Paper aims to enable clearer visual differentiation regardless of individual differences in color perception.

The certified colors include light pink, snow, lemon, orange, strawberry, light blue, blue, light green, green, reddish-purple, indigo, and black. The paper is available in multiple formats, including quarter-size (approximately 543 mm × 392 mm and 540 mm × 390 mm) and eighth-size sheets (approximately 271 mm × 392 mm and 270 mm × 390 mm), with options for 10-sheet and 100-sheet packs. The product has a basis weight of 122.1 g/m² and a thickness of 0.185 mm.

Color Universal Design is intended to address variations in how individuals perceive colors, including differences associated with common vision types and those who have difficulty distinguishing specific hues such as red and green. The approach also considers changes in color perception due to aging or illness.

Daio Paper stated that the certification aligns with its broader corporate philosophy focused on hygiene, quality of life, and environmental regeneration. The company aims to continue developing products that accommodate diverse user needs while promoting inclusive design in paper-based materials.
