Domtar has been named the recipient of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative’s Leadership in Conservation Award, recognising the company’s contributions to forest conservation, climate-smart forestry and biodiversity initiatives.
Presented annually since 2007, the award honours organisations and individuals demonstrating innovation and leadership in conservation through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification framework.
According to SFI, Domtar was recognised for its long-term engagement in the organisation’s Climate Smart Forestry Initiative, field-level research contributions, regional leadership and conservation partnerships focused on habitat and biodiversity protection.
“Domtar exemplifies the type of leadership that is helping shape the future of conservation in North American forests,” said Lauren T. Cooper. “Their dedication to conservation spans partnerships with researchers, field implementation and regional collaboration.”
Étienne Vézina said forest certification remains central to the company’s operational strategy and sustainability commitments. He noted that independent third-party verification helps ensure compliance with responsible forest management standards and supports long-term industry development.
Domtar stated that its conservation and sustainability efforts are supported by forestry teams working across public and private forests in North America. The company highlighted its collaboration with private landowners and adherence to government regulations and certification requirements in forest operations.
The company also pointed to its ongoing work in climate-smart forestry practices and biodiversity protection as part of its broader sustainability strategy.
