Grenaa, Denmark — Sustainable packaging leader DS Smith has announced a strategic investment of up to DKK 100 million (approximately €13 million) to upgrade its packaging production facility in Grenaa, Denmark. The investment aims to strengthen the company’s manufacturing capabilities and support growing demand for high-precision corrugated packaging across Denmark and the Nordic region.

At the core of the upgrade is the installation of a new advanced flexo rotary die-cutting line, the five-colour Göpfert 16/28 High Board Line, which incorporates servo-driven technology, vacuum sheet transport, and automatic register control to deliver improved accuracy and production efficiency.

The new equipment will significantly enhance the Grenaa plant’s performance, enabling faster changeovers, more complex die-cutting capabilities, and stable production for customers requiring high-quality packaging solutions.

“With increasing automation in packaging and logistics processes, customers are demanding greater precision and consistent quality,” said Kristian Eriksen, Sales Director at DS Smith Denmark. “This investment strengthens our ability to deliver packaging solutions that integrate seamlessly into automated supply chains—both today and in the future.”

With the installation of the new line, DS Smith expects to increase converting capacity at the Grenaa facility by up to 15 million square meters of corrugated board annually. The expansion will also support shorter lead times, more reliable supply, and improved service for customers across the Nordic markets.

In addition to boosting capacity, the advanced technology will help improve production stability and precision, which can reduce material waste and support DS Smith’s ongoing commitment to sustainable packaging solutions.

The investment underscores DS Smith’s strategy to remain a competitive, long-term partner for customers in Denmark and Northern Europe, while continuing to innovate in fibre-based, recyclable packaging solutions.
