Strasswalchen, Austria — Dunapack Packaging has successfully completed a major automation and work-in-progress (WIP) storage project at its production facility in Strasswalchen, Austria, marking a significant step forward in logistics automation and operational efficiency.
The project, which took 33 months to complete, involved a total investment of €12.1 million. As part of the upgrade, the company installed a high-bay WIP storage system in front of the converting hall, creating 1.2 million square meters of storage capacity for corrugated board.
The new automated storage and logistics system is designed to streamline internal material flow, improve operational safety, and enhance production performance at the plant.
“The project represents one of our most substantial steps forward in logistics automation and operational efficiency and sets a new benchmark for efficiency, safety, and performance in our operations,” the company said in a statement.
According to Dunapack Packaging, the investment is expected to deliver several operational benefits, including increased productivity on the corrugator, reduced product and pallet damage, higher converting productivity, and improved overall cost efficiency.
The project was delivered in collaboration with logistics automation specialists Hörmann Logistics and Van den Bos, whose expertise in high-bay storage systems and automated logistics played a key role in the project’s successful implementation.
Dunapack Packaging emphasized that the new system strengthens its production infrastructure while supporting long-term efficiency improvements across its corrugated packaging operations.
