Ukrainian investment company EFI Group has inaugurated a new packaging manufacturing plant in Zhytomyr following an investment of €5 million, according to Chief Executive Officer Olga Batova.
The facility is the fourth packaging plant in EFI Group's portfolio. Batova said the new operation uses pulp as its primary raw material, while the company's other three packaging plants manufacture products using recovered paper.
The new facility supports EFI Group's broader expansion into fiber-based packaging. Earlier this year, company founder Ihor Liski announced the Pulp Master project, an initiative focused on producing disposable paper tableware and paper packaging from cellulose fiber.
According to Liski, Ukraine currently does not produce primary cellulose fiber domestically and remains dependent on imported material. He said the company aims to develop a system for producing cellulose from by-products of crop and fruit production, although no additional project details were disclosed.
Founded in 2007, EFI Group develops and invests in businesses across multiple industries in Ukraine. Its investment portfolio includes healthcare and medical technology, paper manufacturing, food processing, woodworking, agricultural product supply, and other industrial sectors.
The launch of the Zhytomyr facility expands the company's packaging production capacity while supporting its strategy to increase the use of cellulose-based materials in paper packaging products.
