Emerald Packaging has substituted over one million pounds of virgin polyethylene (PE) with post-consumer recycled (PCR) material during 2025. The flexible packaging manufacturer states that this transition aligns with the sustainability objectives of its industry partners.
Kevin Kelly, CEO at Emerald Packaging, commented: “This milestone reflects Emerald Packaging’s commitment to the environment and our technical ability to deliver high-quality packaging while reducing the reliance on virgin plastics.”
“We’ve worked closely with our supply chain partners and customers to make PCR a viable and scalable part of our product offerings for those who are seeking sustainable options that meet performance standards without compromising environmental values.”
In October, Emerald Packaging collaborated with Idaho Package, Wada Farms, and Walmart to launch the first 30% food-contact PCR bag for potatoes.
A partnership with D’Arrigo Bros. of California led to PCR bag adoption across its full product line, covering romaine lettuce hearts and iceberg lettuce. Emerald Packaging reports that the 30% food-contact PCR bags have removed over 600,000 pounds of virgin plastic from the supply chain.
Emerald Packaging highlights that PCR integration diverts plastic waste from landfills and cuts carbon emissions from virgin plastic production.
As the largest US manufacturer of plastic packaging for fresh produce, Emerald Packaging recently contributed to California legislation enhancing recycling infrastructure.
