Ence is advancing the SILVO+ project, an initiative focused on developing a smart silvopasture model designed to help prevent forest fires while enhancing the measurement and value of ecosystem services.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with forestry consultancy Tenzas and data analytics specialist Nigal. It also receives scientific and technical support from the University of Santiago de Compostela and dissemination backing from Feuga.
SILVO+ aims to integrate artificial intelligence to optimize grazing management by analyzing variables such as biomass levels, weather conditions, and fire risk. The project will also validate enabling technologies including GPS tracking systems, electronic fencing, and mobile infrastructure to support adaptive land management.
A key component of the initiative is the development of a standardized methodology for measuring and certifying ecosystem services. These include carbon capture, biodiversity, and soil improvement. The project also предусматривает the creation of a digital platform to integrate data generated during operations and support compliance with regulatory frameworks such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Ence said the project aligns with its Biodiversity Plan and broader strategy focused on fire prevention and sustainable forest management. The initiative also supports the company’s efforts to improve the identification, measurement, and valuation of ecosystem services within its operations.
