Feldmuehle has halted paper production at its historic Uetersen mill in Germany, bringing more than 120 years of papermaking to an end as soaring industrial power prices and market turbulence undermine competitiveness. Management said recent, capital‑intensive investments in energy efficiency, process optimization, product development and cost reduction were not enough to offset unplanned market shocks, uncertainty over industrial electricity pricing and rising bureaucratic burdens. The company concluded it can no longer run the site on an economically viable basis and criticised the broader policy environment for failing to support energy‑intensive manufacturing in Germany. Feldmuehle will complete, sell and ship remaining paper volumes over the coming weeks, while thanking employees for their commitment and sacrifices and acknowledging long‑standing support from customers and business partners built over decades.
