A large fire broke out at the CMPC Papeles Cordillera industrial plant in Puente Alto, in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, Chile, prompting a major emergency response.

The fire started in the paper and cardboard storage area, where large bales of recyclable materials are kept. Because these materials are highly flammable, the blaze quickly intensified, requiring the deployment of multiple fire companies and dozens of firefighting units to control the situation.

Authorities issued a SAE emergency alert requesting the preventive evacuation of nearby residents, particularly those in the Pie Andino sector, due to the risk of fire spread and the heavy smoke visible across parts of Santiago.

The emergency also caused traffic restrictions in surrounding streets, including areas near Avenida Eyzaguirre, while firefighters worked to contain the flames.

Firefighters later reported that the fire was brought under control, though crews remained on site to cool affected areas and prevent the fire from reigniting. No injuries were reported.

The incident also impacted the local community, with several schools suspending classes due to the presence of smoke in the area.
