JESUP, Georgia, United States – A fire broke out late Saturday at the Rayonier paper mill in Jesup, prompting a multi-agency emergency response and causing significant damage to part of the facility, according to local authorities.
Jesup Fire Chief Jared Huffman said the blaze has been contained, with crews continuing to extinguish remaining hot spots. No injuries were immediately reported.
The fire impacted a mill building, though officials have not yet determined the full extent of the damage. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Multiple fire departments from surrounding areas responded to the scene to assist in controlling the blaze.
The Jesup facility has experienced a prior fire incident; a digester unit—used in the chemical processing of paper pulp—caught fire at the same mill in 2024.
Authorities have not released further operational or production impact details as of publication.
