A fire broke out at a facility of Subam Papers near Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, affecting waste paper and discarded cardboard stored in compressed blocks, according to reports.

The fire was reported at around 2.30 p.m. at the company’s factory premises in Vaduganpatti Village. Fire and rescue personnel deployed multiple fire tenders to the site and worked to prevent the blaze from spreading to other stored waste paper blocks and surrounding areas.

The large quantity of compressed waste paper and cardboard made firefighting operations difficult. While the spread of the fire was brought under control, reports said the blaze could take several hours to be fully extinguished.

Smoke from the incident affected surrounding areas, and firefighting operations were continuing. Police registered a case and began an investigation into the incident.

Subam Papers operates a paper and packaging board manufacturing facility in the Tirunelveli region, where waste paper is used as a raw material.
