FPTA AGM in Hyderabad to Focus on GST, Sustainability and Technology in Paper Trade

The Federation of Paper Traders’ Association (FPTA) will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) in Hyderabad from October 3 to 5, with the paper trade’s demand for a reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST) on paper among the key issues expected to be discussed.

The association is seeking a reduction in GST on paper from the existing 18% to 5%, citing the need to address taxation-related issues affecting the sector.

Organised by the FPTA in collaboration with the Telangana Paper Merchants’ Association (TPMA), the three-day meeting will focus on emerging opportunities, sustainability and technological advancements in the paper sector.

The programme is expected to bring together more than 1,000 delegates from across India, including manufacturers, industry leaders and policymakers. Discussions will also cover the growth of the paper trade and manufacturing sector, sustainability, technological advancements, taxation and emerging business opportunities.

TPMA president Abhishek Vijayvargiya said the event would see participation from stakeholders across the paper industry.

The AGM will also mark a leadership transition within the FPTA, with Hyderabad-based Tirumala Balaji Paper managing director T.P. Kishan Singh set to take over as the association’s nominee president during the programme.

TPMA secretary Ashwin Jain Bhansali said paper remains indispensable across sectors despite increasing digitisation. He also reiterated the association’s appeal for a reduction in GST on paper and paper products from 18% to 5%.

The meeting comes as paper industry stakeholders continue to seek government support on taxation and other sector-related issues, while discussions increasingly include sustainability, technology and supply-chain developments.
