Ipswich, United Kingdom — Frugalpac has increased its production capacity for paper bottles as demand grows for lower-carbon packaging alternatives in the beverage sector.
The company said it has expanded output at its manufacturing facility in Ipswich, enabling higher volumes of its Frugal Bottle, a paper-based packaging solution designed to reduce environmental impact compared with traditional glass bottles. The move comes amid increasing interest from drinks producers seeking to cut carbon emissions and adopt more sustainable materials.
Frugalpac stated that the Frugal Bottle is made from 94% recycled paperboard with a food-grade pouch inside to hold liquid. According to the company, the packaging is five times lighter than a standard glass bottle and has a carbon footprint up to six times lower.
The capacity increase is intended to support both domestic and international demand, as more wine, spirits and other beverage brands explore alternatives to glass. Frugalpac added that its manufacturing model allows bottles to be produced closer to filling sites, potentially reducing transport-related emissions.
The company also highlighted that its technology can be licensed globally, enabling local production of paper bottles in different markets. This approach is aimed at scaling adoption while maintaining supply chain efficiency.
Frugalpac’s expansion reflects a broader shift within the packaging industry toward fibre-based solutions, as manufacturers respond to regulatory pressure and consumer demand for more sustainable packaging formats.
