Georgia-Pacific announced the groundbreaking of Phase 2 of its $83 million warehouse expansion project at its Palatka mill, reinforcing the company’s commitment to enhancing its distribution network and improving shipping efficiency for retail customers.
The second phase of the project will add a 400,000-square-foot warehouse that will be seamlessly connected to the existing facility. The new warehouse will incorporate advanced technologies, including automated guided vehicles (AGVs), to improve safety, streamline operations, and increase efficiency at the mill’s loading docks.
Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed within approximately one year.
Phase 1 of the project has already been completed and included the development of a 36-acre trailer yard with capacity for 574 trailers, a new inspection station, and a dedicated entrance on County Road 216. These upgrades were designed to streamline truck traffic and support increased outbound shipment volumes.
Upon completion of Phase 2, the Palatka mill will be better equipped to handle mixed-load shipments to retailers, reducing transportation complexity and enhancing service levels.
The Palatka mill is the largest private employer in Putnam County and remains a critical contributor to the region’s manufacturing and logistics economy. This expansion further underscores Georgia-Pacific’s long-term commitment to the local community and its role in driving economic growth.
