Brunswick, Georgia, USA – Georgia-Pacific has announced a planned maintenance period at its Brunswick Cellulose mill, with work set to begin on April 7 as part of its regular operational schedule.
The company informed local residents that the maintenance program will involve more than 1,200 contractors and includes upgrades aimed at improving safety, operational efficiency, and environmental performance. The outage is described as a routine industry practice and a “significant investment” in the facility’s long-term reliability.
According to Mark Brown, public affairs manager for Brunswick Cellulose, specific details of the projects have not been disclosed. He noted that such maintenance outages are typical for pulp mills and are part of ongoing efforts to optimize plant operations.
During the maintenance period, residents living near the site may experience temporary changes, including increased noise and localized standing water. The company indicated that fluctuations in water usage—both reductions from the water table and increased discharge as equipment is taken offline and restarted—may result in visible water accumulation in nearby areas.
Noise levels are expected to be particularly noticeable between April 24 and April 30, when certain maintenance activities are scheduled to take place.
Georgia-Pacific stated that it remains focused on continuous operational improvements while maintaining its commitment to the local community.
