GP and Koch Test Autonomous Drone System at Alabama River Cellulose

Georgia-Pacific (GP) and Koch are testing an autonomous drone system at Alabama River Cellulose (ARC), marking the first such deployment in their history.

The technology is designed to provide a safer, more consistent and scalable method of tracking progress across the site. The autonomous system is being tested as companies seek to address resource constraints and improve the efficiency of site monitoring.

GP conducts more than 1,500 drone checks annually, and the autonomous system is intended to provide leaders with more timely information while allowing employees to focus on higher-value work.

The technology is being positioned as a tool to support workplace safety, improve the use of employee time and provide leaders with greater visibility into progress across the site.

The autonomous drone system is currently in the testing phase at ARC, with plans to expand its use to other sites in the future.
