Henkel has announced the expansion of its barrier and heat-seal coatings portfolio aimed at paper-based packaging applications, as part of its ongoing efforts to support more sustainable packaging solutions.
The company introduced new water-based coating technologies designed to enhance the performance of paper packaging by providing resistance to moisture, grease, and oxygen while maintaining recyclability. These coatings are intended to serve as alternatives to conventional plastic layers, aligning with industry demand for fiber-based packaging solutions.
Henkel stated that the expanded portfolio includes both barrier coatings and heat-seal coatings that can be tailored for various end-use applications, including food and consumer goods packaging. The technologies are compatible with existing paper converting processes, enabling manufacturers to integrate them without significant changes to production lines.
The coatings are engineered to deliver functional protection while supporting circular economy goals. By replacing multilayer plastic laminates, the solutions aim to improve the recyclability of packaging materials and reduce overall environmental impact.
According to the company, the development responds to increasing regulatory pressure and consumer demand for sustainable packaging. The expanded offering builds on Henkel’s existing expertise in adhesives and coatings, further strengthening its position in the paper packaging segment.
No financial details or capacity expansions were disclosed in the announcement.
