International Paper plans to close its plant in Union Gap, Washington, resulting in 102 job losses.

A WARN Alert indicates the facility, which produces corrugated boxes, pulp, and other environmentally friendly paper products, will shut down.

The company, founded in 1898 in the northeastern U.S., operates multiple locations on the West Coast, including a box plant in Moses Lake.

Workers at Union Gap will receive severance packages, and some may transfer to other facilities.

Layoffs are also scheduled this year at sites in California and Kentucky.

Internationally, International Paper is splitting into two segments: one for overseas operations and one for North America.

Business reports attribute the closures and reductions to a fourth-quarter worldwide loss of $2.38 billion.

Despite the layoffs, International Paper does not rank among the top 26 employers in the county by employee count.

Washington Employment Security Department confirmed the closure plans.
