Julius Schulte Söhne Ceases Coreboard Production at Düsseldorf Mill

Julius Schulte Söhne GmbH & Co. KG has ceased coreboard production at its Düsseldorf mill, following an announcement made by the company in February.

The company produced the final tonne of coreboard at the end of June, bringing an end to 140 years of coreboard production at the Düsseldorf site.

Julius Schulte Söhne said some coreboard production will continue at its Julius Schulte Trebsen GmbH & Co. KG paper mill in Trebsen/Mulde, near Leipzig. The Trebsen mill produces containerboard, including Testliner and Fluting.

According to the company, customer deliveries of coreboard had primarily been handled through the Düsseldorf site, which it described as a reliable production location. However, structural conditions, including the plant’s inner-city location, together with economic market conditions in recent years, had increasingly placed pressure on the company.

Paper production in Düsseldorf has now ceased. The company also said the Düsseldorf site will temporarily continue further processing of parent rolls from production, with this activity expected to continue until around mid-2027.

The closure marks the end of coreboard manufacturing at a Düsseldorf mill that had produced the grade for 140 years, while Julius Schulte Söhne continues some coreboard production at its Trebsen facility.
