The KAMA cardboard and paper mill, part of the Sveza forestry group, has increased the capacity of its bleached chemithermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) workshop to 470 tons per day following the successful modernization of electrical equipment at its pumping station.

The upgrade, carried out at BCTMP Shop No. 2, has resulted in a 19% increase in daily production of this key semi-finished material, which plays a critical role in the manufacture of coated packaging board. The pulp produced in the unit is used in the middle layer of the board, providing bulk and structural rigidity.

Since its commissioning in 2021, BCTMP Shop No. 2 has undergone continuous capacity expansion to meet rising demand for KAMA’s coated board products. Over the past five years, output has grown from 395 tons per day to the current 470 tons per day.

The modernization project involved investments of more than 20 million rubles, with an additional 29 million rubles planned for further upgrades. The capacity increase was achieved through the partial replacement of electric and pump motors, including the installation of a new 1.8 MW unit at the waste refiner, replacing older, less efficient equipment.

KAMA has already initiated preparations for the next phase of modernization, which will include the replacement of pumping equipment. Installation is scheduled during a planned maintenance shutdown in June.

Following completion of the next phase, the mill expects to further increase BCTMP output by approximately 6%, reaching a target capacity of 500 tons per day within two months.

Commenting on the development, Roman Seravin, Executive Director of KAMA Paper and Paper Mill, stated that the expansion will enhance supply stability for coated cardboard customers while strengthening the company’s production independence.

The upgrade reflects KAMA’s ongoing strategy to improve operational efficiency and scale production capacity in response to growing market demand.
