Russia’s aviation sector has successfully transitioned to domestically produced paper for in-flight magazines, with over 60% now printed on light-weight coated (LWC) paper manufactured by the KAMA mill, part of the Sveza forestry group.
Previously reliant on imported materials for glossy magazine production, the industry has fully adapted to local sourcing following the withdrawal of foreign suppliers three years ago. Domestic paper solutions are now meeting both quality and operational requirements across the sector.
The Mozhaisk Printing Plant (MPK), a key printing partner for leading Russian airlines, produces in-flight magazines using 65 g/m² light-coated paper for interior pages and 200 g/m² coated paper for covers. This combination optimizes both performance and durability: the lighter paper reduces overall publication weight and accelerates drying during printing, while the heavier cover enhances resistance to mechanical stress and supports additional finishing processes. Specifications are tailored to meet publishers’ needs, including color accuracy and design standards.
“The market has changed since the departure of international brands, but we are seeing growth in new projects. Print magazines are strengthening their position thanks to high-quality content, relevant topics, and strong audience engagement,”
— Natalia Zolotukhina, Sales Director, Mozhaisk Printing Plant
The shift toward domestic materials reflects not only supply chain changes but also the need for consistent quality and efficient logistics.
“The production of in-flight magazines requires strict adherence to process parameters. KAMA light-coated paper ensures high-quality color reproduction at relatively low density. The glossy printing segment has gradually adapted to the new conditions. Today, the mill’s share of the coated paper market in Russia stands at 21% and remains stable,”
— Roman Seravin, Executive Director, KBK KAMA
With stable supply, competitive performance, and increasing market share, KAMA continues to play a central role in supporting Russia’s evolving in-flight publishing sector.
