The KAMA cardboard and paper mill, part of the Sveza industrial holding, has integrated domestic latex developed by the NOVAROLL group into its paper production process. The new component has increased the strength of the coated layer and reduced paper web dustiness. The results have been confirmed by production tests and customer feedback.
Industrial production with latex from a Russian company demonstrated increased strength of the coated layer of KAMA paper. This is evidenced by a reduction in the number of foreign inclusions detected by the online flaw detection system. Furthermore, paper web dustiness has decreased both during soft-calendering and during roll slitting on a slitting machine (SSM).
KAMA Paper Mill management first announced plans to introduce raw materials from NOVAROLL in April 2026 at the "Investing in Trust" client conference. The full transition to the new binder occurred in May. During the summer months, partners received new batches of paper and noted positive changes in the performance properties of the supplied material during the processing process.
"We are very pleased with the latest improvements to the quality of the KAMA Ural Bright and Ural Bright Satin Plus paper lines. First and foremost, dust levels have been reduced, and the sizing of the coated layer has been significantly improved. As a technologist, I particularly appreciate the minimal dot gain. Now the ink lays perfectly. We've adjusted the gradation curves, increased the black density, and achieved maximum image contrast with smooth halftone transitions. Our customers have already noticed the improved quality of their magazines. It's wonderful that the plant's products are demonstrating such progress ," said Vasily Abramov , Chief Technologist at the First Printing Plant.
KAMA's Production Director, Evgeny Zakhvataev, emphasized that the quality of latex directly determines the key properties of the coated layer—from pigment adhesion to ink absorption. It is this component that ensures a glossy sheen, a silky surface, and high run length. Thanks to it, printed products can withstand printing for much longer periods without requiring equipment downtime for washout.
"After 2022, despite sanctions, Russian manufacturers made a quantum leap in localizing their production chains. Today, our mill's output is 95% domestically produced. We are systematically expanding our pool of Russian suppliers to not only replace imports but also continuously improve paper and cardboard quality standards. It's crucial for us to openly share these results with our customers, guaranteeing them stability and uninterrupted downstream processing ," commented Roman Seravin , Executive Director of KBK KAMA.
