The KAMA cardboard and paper mill, part of the Sveza forestry group, has begun the 2026 shipping season. The first two barges carrying 1,600 cubic meters of timber have arrived and been unloaded at the plant's pier.

Aspen pulpwood is a key raw material for paper and cardboard production. The first shipment of wood has been delivered from the Ilyinsky District of Perm Krai. Wood harvested during the winter is currently arriving at the mill via the Kama River. Deliveries of freshly harvested wood will begin in late summer.

Three partner companies deliver timber for KAMA by river. Barges with capacities ranging from 750 to 1,600 cubic meters are used for transportation. This relieves the burden on the transport infrastructure and reduces transportation costs: one barge with a capacity of 1,200 cubic meters replaces up to 40 timber truck trips.

Particular attention was paid to navigation safety. In anticipation of the season, the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Administration of the Kama Basin of Inland Waterways" conducted a series of trawling and surveys of the waters near the enterprise's pier. The resulting official report confirmed the required depths and the complete absence of underwater obstacles, guaranteeing the safe passage of vessels.

"This year, the company expanded the geography of its timber deliveries by water. This will allow for more flexible management of raw material flows. Regarding safety, the planned preparation of the water area has been carried out: hydrologists have confirmed that vessels will navigate a clear channel with a guaranteed depth reserve ," noted Evgeny Efimov , Regional Raw Material Procurement Manager at Sveza.

During the 2025 navigation season, over 23,000 cubic meters of round timber were delivered to the KAMA mill by water. Deliveries by water came from the hard-to-reach forested areas of Berezniki and Solikamsk, as well as from the Perm, Ilyinsky, and Dobryansky districts of the Kama region. The navigation season in the region traditionally runs from May to October.
