Production of alkyl ketene dimer cationic emulsion—a special AKD adhesive—has officially commenced at the Zapadny Industrial Park in Kemerovo. The adhesive is marketed under the Kuzbass Scarab brand.
The launch of this facility will allow the company to fully meet its internal raw material needs. Furthermore, the company plans to supply its products to its pulp and paper industry counterparts in the Siberian and Far Eastern regions. For local producers, this represents an excellent opportunity to significantly reduce logistics costs, as similar adhesives previously had to be imported from the European part of the country.
Kemerovo-based developers used an original, improved formula. The resulting product is multifunctional: it enhances the hydrophobicity of cardboard and paper, makes the packaging surface more suitable for high-quality printing, adds strength and wear resistance, and imparts a pleasant shine and brightness to the cardboard. The new product is also beneficial during the production process itself: it helps combat excess foam and stabilizes chemical processes in the wet end of paper and cardboard machines. Ultimately, adding AKD-Aktiv to the paper pulp significantly improves the properties of not only the raw materials themselves but also the final product—the finished corrugated packaging.
Incidentally, the official name "AKD-Aktiv" was born from an internal corporate naming competition held within the company. The professional community will be able to see and evaluate the new product next week in Moscow, where the team will present it at the packaging industry's leading trade fair, Rosupak 2026.
