Kemira announced plans to construct an activated carbon reactivation plant at its Tarragona site in Spain. The facility will expand Kemira's capacity to serve the Nordic drinking water and wastewater markets. The pre-engineering phase is underway, with an expected investment in the low double-digit millions of euros. The plant aims to be operational in the second half of 2027, pending final investment decision and environmental permits. This project aligns with Kemira's long-term goal to double its water treatment business. Regulation drives demand for efficient PFAS and micropollutant removal. Kemira recently acquired Norit’s UK reactivation business, Purton Carbons Limited. Tuija Pohjolainen-Hiltunen, President of Industry & Water, stated the new capacity strengthens offerings for increasing European demand. Kemira supports customers with reactivation services and new water treatment solutions. The company reported 2024 revenue of EUR 2.9 billion with 4,700 employees.
