Kıvanç Paper has taken a significant step toward the future of sustainable packaging with the successful start-up of its PM1 board machine, powered by advanced technologies from Valmet. The new greenfield mill marks the company’s strategic entry into the board manufacturing industry, combining decades of industrial expertise with innovative papermaking solutions.
The project reflects Kıvanç Paper’s long-term vision to contribute to the growing demand for sustainable packaging while strengthening the circular economy. By transforming recycled wastepaper into fluting and liner, the mill produces high-quality containerboard with strong performance properties and reduced environmental impact.
Valmet supplied a comprehensive board production line, including an OCC line, stock preparation and white water treatment, a complete board machine from headbox to reel and winder, and integrated automation and digital services. The seamless integration of these technologies ensures efficient mill operations and consistent product quality.
Several innovations make the PM1 line stand out. The mill features an OptiFlo Layering Fourdrinier headbox with Aqua layering technology, enabling better layer purity, improved board strength, and optimized chemical usage. In addition, the Valmet Uhle box vacuum management system helps reduce energy consumption and stabilize the wet-end process.
Energy efficiency and operational reliability are further supported by Valmet’s Drum Pulper, Conical Refiners, and Twister Hydrocyclones, designed to process recycled fiber efficiently while minimizing energy use.
The dryer section incorporates a compact geometry that improves runnability and drying efficiency, while the OptiSizer Hard size press—introduced for the first time in Türkiye—enhances the strength properties of the final board product.
Since start-up, the line has delivered strong results, achieving rapid ramp-up and producing saleable board within just days. The close collaboration between Kıvanç Paper and Valmet played a key role in the project’s success, demonstrating how advanced technologies and expert partnership can drive innovation in the packaging industry.
By combining sustainability, efficiency, and digitalization, the PM1 project sets a new benchmark for modern containerboard production and highlights how technology can support the responsible future of packaging.
