Koenig & Bauer AG has announced a leadership transition in its Paper & Packaging Sheetfed Systems segment, with Christian Steinmaßl set to take over as head of the business from Markus Weiß effective 1 January 2027. The change follows a mutual agreement, with Weiß stepping down at the end of 2026 to pursue new entrepreneurial ventures outside the Group.
Weiß took charge of the segment in early February 2025 and led its strategic realignment during a challenging market period. Under his leadership, Koenig & Bauer sharpened portfolio priorities, launched product initiatives under its IMPACT strategic programme and strengthened key customer relationships worldwide.
CEO Dr. Stephen Kimmich thanked Weiß for his leadership and contribution to the business, highlighting his strategic direction, customer focus and role in advancing the segment's transformation.
Steinmaßl, who has been a member of Koenig & Bauer's Group Management since December 2024, will assume responsibility for the Paper & Packaging Sheetfed Systems segment at the beginning of 2027. His current responsibilities include business units such as Digital & Webfed, Vision & Protection and Kyana, as well as Global Procurement and the production network.
He brings extensive experience in the paper and printing industry, with knowledge of customer requirements across commercial and packaging printing.
Koenig & Bauer said the leadership change will not affect its strategic direction. The company plans to continue implementing its IMPACT framework, with priorities including customer focus, operational excellence, site performance, competitiveness and sustainable earnings.
Weiß and Steinmaßl will work together during the remaining months of 2026 to ensure continuity in customer projects, strategic initiatives and operational processes.
Steinmaßl said he would focus on developing the segment's portfolio and advancing its ongoing transformation, particularly in sheetfed offset and packaging printing. He also emphasised the importance of delivering innovative and reliable solutions to customers.
The appointment is intended to ensure continuity in the management of Koenig & Bauer's core business as the company continues its transformation under the IMPACT programme.
