Korea Paper Association Champions Zero Accident Goal at Safety and Health Conference in Chungju

In opening remarks, Chair Choi Hyun-su of the Korea Paper Association said, “We feel a heavy sense of responsibility over the unfortunate accidents that have recently occurred in the paper industry,” adding, “The highest value that must be prioritized is guaranteeing the lives and safety of workers.” Choi continued, “Let us strive for zero accidents in the industry through airtight reinforcement of safety and health education, improvements to working environments, and the everyday practice of a firm safety mindset.”

At the event, the Yuhan-Kimberly Chungju plant, selected as an outstanding workplace for safety management, received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy award. The Yuhan-Kimberly Chungju plant has been conducting various programs to spread and internalize a safety culture and is carrying out activities to prevent potential safety and health risks among partner companies. As a result, it achieved an industrial accident rate of 0% from 2024 through the first half of this year. Kim Hyo-sik, senior manager at KLEANNARA, and Director Kim Dae-su at Asia Paper were selected as outstanding safety managers.
To proactively respond to the full revision of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, the paper industry has formed a “standing safety council” with participation from safety and health managers at each business site and has been steadily carrying out multifaceted activities to prevent industrial accidents.
