Kruger Products has commissioned a new heat recovery system on the TAD tissue machine at its Sherbrooke mill as part of an energy efficiency initiative aimed at reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the company, the system captures energy that was previously lost and reintegrates it into the manufacturing process. The project is expected to save nearly four million cubic metres of natural gas annually.
Kruger Products said the initiative will reduce the Sherbrooke facility’s carbon dioxide emissions by 13%, representing an estimated reduction of 7,825 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The project was supported financially by Énergir through its Implementing Effective Measures program, which assists organizations in adopting energy-efficiency improvements.
The commissioning of the heat recovery system forms part of the company’s efforts to improve operational efficiency while lowering the environmental impact of its manufacturing activities. The Sherbrooke mill team said the project contributes to broader sustainability objectives and supports efforts to reduce emissions in Quebec’s industrial sector.
Kruger Products stated that the new system is now fully operational and integrated into the mill’s production process.
