Mais Papéis Enters Double-Ply Tissue Segment With Valmet Perini X3 Conversion Line

Mais Papéis has entered the double-ply and triple-ply toilet paper market with the installation of Valmet’s Perini X3 conversion line at its production facility in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

The investment comes as consumer preferences in Brazil continue to shift toward higher-value tissue products, with demand for double-ply toilet paper growing faster than for single-ply alternatives. The company said the new line will support its strategy to expand its product portfolio and strengthen its position in the Brazilian tissue market.

Fabio Girardelo, General Manager of Mais Papéis, described the launch as a significant milestone for the company, noting that the start-up of the Perini X3 line brings Valmet’s technology into its production operations.

The Perini X3 line includes three unwinders, an embossing and laminating unit, a rewinder, an internal tube box, and a glue application system. According to the companies, the equipment can convert single-, double-, and triple-ply toilet paper at speeds of up to 200 meters per minute and production rates of up to 10 logs per minute.

Valmet said the line features a compact and modular design intended to simplify installation and maintenance. The system can also be configured with an additional embossing module for the production of DESL-format kitchen towels, providing additional manufacturing flexibility.

In addition to supplying the equipment, Valmet participated in the development of the embossing design, including artwork creation, design engineering, and material testing. The company stated that it developed the project for approval of the engraved steel roller design, considering requirements related to bulk, smoothness, and product appearance. According to the companies, the development and approval process was completed within five business days.

Girardelo said Valmet’s reputation for quality, service, and technical expertise influenced the company’s decision to select the supplier for the project.

With the installation of the Perini X3 line, Mais Papéis aims to expand production of premium tissue products, while Valmet strengthens its presence as a supplier of tissue converting technology and product development solutions for the industry.
