Marcal Paper today announced it has completed the acquisition of the St. Catharines Tissue Mill, a premium Through-Air-Dried (TAD) tissue and specialty paper producer based in St. Catharines, Ontario. The mill was previously owned by BiOrigin Specialty Products. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1912, the St. Catharines mill is one of the most storied papermaking operations in North America. The mill produces high-quality TAD parent rolls used in premium At-Home and Away-From-Home paper towel and bath tissue products, alongside a broad portfolio of specialty paper grades.
“St. Catharines is a remarkable asset with a remarkable team behind it,” said Rob Baron, CEO of Marcal. “Adding the complementary mill to our platform is a natural step for Marcal — it strengthens our ability to deliver the premium tissue products our customers expect, while bringing in a deeply experienced workforce and a specialty paper business with a long heritage of innovation. We’re proud to welcome the St. Catharines team to Marcal and committed to investing in the mill’s continued success.”
“Marcal and St. Catharines each have a storied history in papermaking and as anchors of our respective communities. We’re pleased to count the dedicated team members of the St. Catharines mill, including members of Independent Paper Workers (IPW) Union, Unit 124, into the Marcal family,” Baron added.
