Metsä Fibre Celebrates 30 Years of the Rauma Pulp Mill

Metsä Fibre proudly celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Rauma pulp mill, a cornerstone of industrial excellence and regional vitality since its launch in 1996.

Located in the heart of Satakunta, the Rauma pulp mill has grown into a modern bioproducts industrial site and remains a significant employer and economic driver in Rauma and the surrounding region.

High-Quality Production with Global Impact

Each year, the Rauma pulp mill produces approximately 650,000 tonnes of high-quality softwood pulp. A key specialty is Metsä Strong pulp, widely used in the production of board, paper, and specialty products worldwide. Known for its strength and consistent quality, Metsä Strong pulp supports customers in creating durable and sustainable end products.

A Modern Bioproducts Industrial Site

Today, the Rauma pulp mill operates as an advanced bioproducts site that maximizes the value of every part of the wood raw material. In addition to premium softwood pulp, the mill produces:

• Biochemicals used in industrial manufacturing

• Raw materials for cleaning products

• Ingredients for the food industry

• Bioenergy, replacing fossil-based alternatives

The mill generates enough renewable energy not only to meet its own operational needs but also to supply electricity to the national grid and district heating to nearby communities—strengthening the region’s energy self-sufficiency and supporting Finland’s climate goals.

Strong Local Presence and Employment

The Rauma pulp mill employs 220 professionals, contributing significantly to local employment, tax revenues, and business partnerships throughout Satakunta.
