Metsä Group introduced an AI application that reforms pricing for young stand management services. The new solution replaces the current matrix pricing model nationwide in phases during 2026. Developed by Metsä Group, the application uses artificial intelligence to enhance accuracy and efficiency in forest management pricing. Young stand management involves early thinning to promote optimal tree growth by removing competing trees around seedlings. This AI tool analyzes data for precise stem volume-based pricing, where trees are valued as whole trunks based on quality and volume. Forest specialists assess average tree volume and quality per species to set fixed prices per cubic metre. Actual measurements from harvesters determine final payments, adjusting for deviations from estimates. The reform supports sustainable forestry, mixed stands, and climate resilience by favoring diverse species from early stages. It builds on stem volume pricing methods fair to buyers and sellers, encouraging quality thinnings.
