Minerals Technologies Inc. (MTI) reported higher sales to paper and packaging customers during the second quarter of 2026, contributing to growth in its Specialty Additives business despite broader cost pressures across its Consumer & Specialties segment.
MTI reported consolidated net sales of US$548 million for the second quarter, up 4% from a year earlier. For the first six months of 2026, sales reached US$1.1 billion, representing 7% year-on-year growth. The company said it remains on track to achieve mid-single-digit revenue growth for the full year, supported by growth initiatives and favorable market conditions.
Within the Consumer & Specialties segment, sales totaled US$275 million, down 1% from the prior year. However, the Specialty Additives business, which supplies mineral-based technologies to the paper and packaging industry, recorded US$151 million in sales, a 1% increase compared with the second quarter of 2025. MTI attributed the improvement primarily to higher sales to paper and packaging customers.
The Consumer & Specialties segment reported operating income of US$29 million, down 21% excluding special items. The decline reflected an unfavorable product mix and higher energy, transportation and raw material costs that were not fully offset during the quarter because of the timing of contractual pricing adjustments.
MTI said its Specialty Additives business develops mineral-based technologies that improve functionality across several end markets, including paper and packaging, food and pharmaceuticals, sealants and adhesives, paints and coatings, and residential construction. The company supplies functional mineral solutions designed to enhance product performance and manufacturing efficiency.
Alongside its financial results, MTI published its 18th Sustainability Report, establishing new environmental targets through 2035. The company said it achieved all 12 environmental targets set in 2018 by 2025, including reductions of 34% in Scope 1 emissions, 42% in Scope 2 emissions, 31% in water withdrawals, 56% in water discharge, and 44% in landfill waste. MTI added that 67% of products commercialized during the previous five years had a sustainable profile, supporting customers' efforts to reduce emissions, waste and resource consumption.
Douglas T. Dietrich, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said the company's first-half sales growth was driven by strategic growth initiatives and strong market conditions. He added that pricing actions have been implemented to offset inflationary cost increases experienced during the quarter.
The company also announced it will host its 2026 Investor Day on September 22 at its research and development facility in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where it will outline growth initiatives and technology developments.
