MM Board & Paper has expanded the production of its GD2 recycled cartonboard grade MCM® SMART to a third European mill, strengthening supply security and improving logistics efficiency for customers across the region.
With this expansion, MM Frohnleiten in Austria joins the existing production sites MM Gernsbach (Germany) and MM Količevo (Slovenia), creating a broader manufacturing network for the popular cartonboard grade. The move is designed to ensure reliable availability, shorter delivery distances, and greater flexibility for converters and brand owners relying on recycled cartonboard for packaging applications.
MCM® SMART is a proven GD2 cartonboard grade widely used in everyday packaging applications such as food, beverage, and personal care products. The material is engineered for stable performance on high-speed converting and printing lines, offering consistent processing quality for large-volume packaging production.
The expansion forms part of MM Board & Paper’s Multi-Mill® concept, which allows established board grades to be produced across several mills. This approach provides built-in redundancy and consistent quality across sites, helping customers reduce supply risks and maintain reliable production planning.
Commenting on the development, Piotr Kuzebski, VP Market Expansion at MM Board & Paper, said the addition of MCM® SMART production at MM Frohnleiten strengthens the company’s network and provides customers with an additional reliable source of supply, along with shorter logistics routes and improved flexibility.
MM Frohnleiten, which has one of Europe’s highest production capacities for coated recycled cartonboard used in folding cartons, is strategically located to serve customers across Western, Eastern, and Southern Europe.
The expansion reinforces MM Board & Paper’s commitment to supporting the growing demand for reliable and sustainable fibre-based packaging materials across the European packaging market.
