Mayr-Melnhof Karton AG (MM Group) has been recognised for the first time as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders 2026 by the Financial Times, marking what the company described as an important external validation of its climate performance and long-term sustainability strategy.
The ranking was compiled by Statista in cooperation with the Financial Times and incorporated data partnerships with CDP and the Science Based Targets initiative. The list recognises 600 European companies that have demonstrated measurable progress in reducing their climate impact. Assessment criteria included reductions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, emissions intensity between 2019 and 2024, and additional climate-related indicators such as CDP scores and SBTi targets.
MM Group said its inclusion follows other sustainability-related recognitions, including a CDP Triple A rating for climate change, forests and water security, as well as SBTi-validated climate targets. According to the company, these achievements reflect its focus on measurable climate action, transparent reporting and responsible business performance.
“This recognition reflects the consistent execution of our sustainability strategy over recent years, based on SBTi-validated targets and a clear 1.5°C-aligned decarbonisation pathway,” said Peter Oswald, Chief Executive Officer of MM Group. He added that the recognition demonstrates the company’s ability to translate its climate framework into measurable emissions reductions and support customers’ climate objectives through transparent data and packaging solutions.
As a consumer packaging company, MM Group said it is focused on reducing emissions across its operations and improving transparency of product-related data to help customers address Scope 3 emissions and strengthen the sustainability performance of their packaging. The company said the recognition highlights its commitment to combining responsible growth with measurable environmental progress.
