Mondi has reached one year of Zero Waste to Landfill operations at its Neusiedler mill in Austria, marking 12 consecutive months without sending manufacturing waste to landfill. The milestone reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to advance circular manufacturing and reduce environmental impact across its operations.
The achievement was enabled through a recycling partnership that repurposes wood ash generated from the mill’s recovery boiler. Previously destined for landfill, the material now undergoes treatment and quality assurance before being supplied to the cement industry, where it is used as an additive in cement production. This process allows the site to keep materials in circulation while eliminating landfill waste from its manufacturing processes.
The initiative aligns with Mondi’s sustainability framework, the Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030), which focuses on circular solutions, climate action, and workforce engagement. The company aims to reduce waste and expand circular practices across its global operations, with the Neusiedler facility contributing to these broader targets.
“We are proud to have achieved one year of waste-free operations at Neusiedler. This milestone sets a benchmark for environmental sustainability and benefits both the environment and our customers, helping them to build more sustainable supply chains. We will continue to explore further opportunities to improve resource efficiency,” said Florian Doebl, Managing Director of Mondi Neusiedler.
The Neusiedler mill joins Mondi’s Frantschach site, which has maintained Zero Waste to Landfill operations for several years. The company said the milestone strengthens its position as a supplier of sustainable paper products for professional print, technical, and converting applications.
