Advanced materials startup Nfinite has secured up to CAD 3.87 million in advisory services and funding from Canada’s National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) to scale its breakthrough high‑barrier paper platform for the flexible packaging market. The company uses its proprietary atmospheric pressure spatial atomic layer deposition (AP‑SALD) process to deposit ultra‑thin, highly conformal coatings on paper, delivering barrier performance comparable to metallized plastic while enabling fully fiber‑based solutions. This technology aims to eliminate plastic from large parts of the USD 270 billion global flexible packaging market, giving consumer goods companies recyclable and compostable paper options that still meet shelf‑life and performance requirements. Strategic partners including Amcor and Unilever are collaborating with Nfinite to industrialize fiber‑based flexible packaging, viewing the platform as a key enabler of more circular and lower‑impact packaging systems.
