Oji Holdings Corporation outlined a series of growth initiatives spanning sustainable packaging, advanced materials and electrical infrastructure products as part of its Medium-Term Management Plan 2027. The company said the measures are intended to strengthen its business portfolio and expand higher value-added products linked to decarbonization and resource efficiency.
Among the initiatives, Oji plans to establish a new liquid packaging carton production base in Dong Nai Province, Vietnam through Oji Liquid Pak. The facility, scheduled to be established in December 2025, will manufacture liquid packaging materials for markets in Asia and Oceania. The company said the investment is aimed at capturing growing demand for aseptic cartons in Southeast Asia, where consumption growth is expected to outpace other regions.
Oji is also expanding its paper-based packaging business in Europe through Walki, its packaging solutions subsidiary. The company highlighted increasing demand for paper-based packaging products amid the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Walki supplies laminated paper packaging solutions, including paper-based secondary packaging for food applications and paper-based facings for insulation materials used in buildings.
In advanced materials, Oji said it is developing wood-based semiconductor materials for next-generation EUV lithography processes. The company has launched collaboration work with Belgian semiconductor research institute imec to develop biomass EUV resist materials designed for semiconductor miniaturization and data center-related demand growth. Oji said commercialization is targeted from 2028, with a sales target of ¥10 billion annually in the 2030s.
Separately, Oji plans to expand production capacity for cellulose-based pressboard products used as insulation materials in large oil-filled transformers. The company said production capacity at its Nakatsu mill operated by Oji F-Tex is planned to triple, with production scheduled to start in April 2029. Oji cited growing electricity demand linked to renewable energy expansion, EV adoption and AI-related infrastructure investment as key drivers for transformer demand growth.
