India’s expanding network of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with developed economies is creating significant growth opportunities for the country’s packaging industry, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said on Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Indian Institute of Packaging’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Mumbai, Prasada said the packaging sector was becoming increasingly important as India strengthened its position in global trade and emerging technology sectors.
He said India’s FTAs and its growing role in areas such as artificial intelligence and advanced technologies were driving demand for high-quality packaging solutions for Indian-made products in international markets.
According to the minister, packaging plays a critical role in improving the global acceptance and reach of products manufactured in India across sectors including food grains, defence, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
Prasada said the sector was receiving strong policy attention under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and stressed the importance of quality standards and product presentation in enhancing India’s export competitiveness.
He added that institutions such as the Indian Institute of Packaging would become increasingly important as India works toward its “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.
The Indian Institute of Packaging is marking its 60th anniversary this year with Foundation Day celebrations as part of its Diamond Jubilee programme.
